Some more adoptions......

So we had quite a flurry of adoptions the last couple of months.....so I think I will finally get caught up today!! Don't know who to start with....so I guess we'll take Pacer.
Pacer has been with us for a few years.....he was a bit older when we got him......so sweet, but no takers. When we found him on the street we took him to the vet to have him scanned for a microchip, and he actually had one from the San Francisco SPCA. We contacted the owners in Houston, they let him go because they didn't want him anymore (really great people). He finally found a good home.....so glad both he and Blast....a couple of our seniors got adopted this year!!!
Calypso was a lovely boy we got from animal control earlier this year. He was absolutely covered in mange. Luckily we had a kind foster to take him in and nurse him back to health. Once he felt better he started bringing him to shows. Here he is about a month ago.......
He went to his new home outside of Dallas this week......he had a short adjustment period.....but is doing great now with his new buddy!!!
Our little girl, Jordyn also got a home this last week. This picture is of her when she went for a fun foster weekend with Jake.....
I wasn't there for the adoption......but heard they were very excited to have her!!!!
Have fun Jordyn......we will miss you!!!!
Kenzie

Abby
Last but not least for today.....I posted a couple of months ago about some dogs we had in kennel, two little red girls and a woolly. We got the two red girls out of the kennel and we immediately had interest in them. A previous adopter, Merlin's mom and dad, were interested in one of them. They came with Merlin and we let them out one at a time.....they both were great with him. So here was the conversation:
Dad: Which one do you like the best??
Mom: I really like them both.
Dad: But which one do you want to take home??
Mom: Both of them........
And so , Kenzie and Abby found a new home with big brother Merlin. I've talked to them and they adore the girls.....and Merlin keeps them in line!!!!
We are always so happy to get kids in some good homes!!!!
A short Lizzy update.....things seem to be about the same.....we are still walking everyday....she loves her food and treats......so I'm good for now.....she seem to be too!!!
Hoping you are having a great holiday!!!!
See you soon......

Been a while.....

Hope you are having a great holiday season......we are doing pretty well here!!! Lizzy is the same , which is good and everyone else is doing well. I've been busy with the online fundraiser for the rescue.....this was one of my projects!!!!

I baked more that 500 dog biscuits......that was a full day project!!!!
Wanted to talk about a few adoptions.....I'm getting very behind.....so let's catch up.....
A couple of months ago a young man came up to us at a show and was very interested in getting a Husky. We asked if he'd ever had a dog, he hadn't , so we suggested Gunter. Gunter is very laid back and sweet....perfect for the first time owner. He took us up on our suggestion and now Gunter has a wonderful home!!!
Yi and his best buddy, Gunter
Blast had been with us for a few years.....he just never got much interest. He is such a sweet boy too!! A month or so ago we met a couple at the same show we met Yi and they came the next week for our work day......they also had a hidden motive.....they wanted to check out a bunch of dogs and see which one was going to go home with them. They took a few of the dogs for a walk and decided on Blast.....I was so happy!!!
Blast with Christina and Ryan!!!!
His name is Harvey now and they just love him......so glad for him.....there truly is a family out there for all of our dogs!!!
The last one today will be Liesha. Liesha was a girl that came to us covered in mange. We worked with her and finally got her pretty cleared up, we knew that if she could get a home that she would probably clear up completely. We had a great family with their dog Hunter come by and they got along great. They didn't even bother to see any other girls. So finally our girl has her own home. They tell me that the two are inseparable!!
Liesha/Sasha with Hunter and her new Mom and Dad!!!
We've had plenty more adoptions....but I'll save those for later. I opted not to put up my tree this year....didn't want to disturb Miss Lizzy....she has a huge crate in the living room that takes up a lot of space and I don't want to move her.....she sleeps there all the time.....not quite as bright as it usually is.....but I'm just glad she is still around!!!!
Have a wonderful evening.......

A Quick Update.......

I wanted to do a quick update on Lizzy. She seems to be holding her own....she has lost a couple of pounds , but she is in good spirits. Loves to eat and loves the walks still. The problem she is having is she is losing her hair in huge clumps. It's worse every day. I know that there is nothing I can do about it......just the cancer issues....but sad just the same.
This was mid September.....

This is today.....
Like I said I know she isn't in any pain and she still likes to play with her friends.....so all is as good as it gets for now.
Have a great evening......

Adoptions and stuff.....

I have been lax with my adoption updates......so much time goes into Lizzy I have a hard time catching up!!! Well let me do that.....these adoptions were in August and September!!
If you read my blog you know that we were always taking Daddy-O and Wayne to every adoption event we could thing of!!! We started going to a dog food place named Kriser's in August and found a place for one of our dogs first time there!! A couple came by and saw Daddy-O and fell in love immediately. They had two little dogs , so Denise, who was fostering at the time , set up a meet and greet to see if Daddy-O was going to have any problems. He never showed aggression towards small dogs and he had no problem with their's. Within two weeks Daddy-O had a fabulous new home with two little ones and Bruce and Orlando. I was so happy....he had gotten passed over so many times....and he was getting older....
As you can see, Bruce found a great companion!!!!
Wayne was always at shows too.....everyone loved him....but he is such a big boy with high energy.....someone was going to have to run with this boy everyday. We got an application and Denise, who was fostering him at the time (yes, I think all dogs go through her these days!!!!), decided the app was a good one and contacted them. They came to see Wayne and checked out a few other Huskies too, but Wayne was their boy. They secured the fence, made sure the house was ready and brought home a very happy Wayne. He even has a daily jogging partner!!!!
Anthony and Joseph have a friend for life!!!!
And finally tonight , Deacon. Deacon was the young boy taken by Michelle....she took him right from animal control to surgery to fix his broken pelvis. Not going to say much but they figured someone kicked him. She nursed him back to health and we got a great application for him. The couple had another young dog and young child.....but we figured the kid had already dealt with a dog...what's another. The dogs got along great , their son loved Deacon , and another adoption was done. Deacon now has a huge backyard to run around with his friend  Kodah!!!
Deacon after surgery....

Trying to get a shot of the family!!!!

Right after we left, of course!!!!

A few more things......had to use this shot....
Some of our volunteers take the cleaning chores so literally!!!!
Lizzy is stable.....that's about all I can say. She is having a harder time getting up when she is on the slick tile floors......
Have a great evening........

A few words on Miss Liz......

Well Lizzy is doing ok......but just that. Luckily she is still at the same weight and loves her walks, but last week I noticed a very distressing problem. Big clumps of hair were coming out and I noticed that a lot of the skin on her back was raw. With the lack of nutrients she is now developing bad skin issues. Took her to the vet and we started with some inject able antibiotics so so she doesn't develop a really bad infection that could take her out.

You can see her chest and around her ears are bad now. I am giving her coconut oil and vitamin E on her skin and in her food but I don't know at this point how much it will help.
This is what she looked like just over a month ago.....I'm very sad that this has to happen....but I guess with no nutrients that's expected.
Will update soon.....

Bridgeland 2014

So we had our show at Bridgeland last Saturday. It was a pretty day....actually it was almost 90...thank goodness we were in the shade most of the day!! We brought out four dogs, decided to give as many as we could a chance to show off!! This is going to be mostly pictures.....it will be a lot more fun that way.......
So we brought....
Cherokee

Sasika
Sapphire....her first time

Pacer
The kids got a ton of attention.....hopefully we will get a foster or adoption out of the day. The highlight of the day for me was being able to see the Olate Dogs. This father and son, with their dogs, won America's Got Talent a few years ago. I know these pics aren't great but it was the best I could do. The cool thing is that all the dogs are rescue dogs!!!!

Just a few more pics.....we were so happy to have some girls from club at Cy-Ranch.....that's how I got to go to the Olate dog show!!! Thanks so much ladies.

Becky hugging Cherokee....

Cherokee putting himself in time out.....it was a long day!!!

Our director's son's dog Chloe getting some kisses from the local sheriff...
We probably won't have too many more shows this year...the holidays are coming very fast!!!
Have a wonderful day........

Some Updates......

I've been pretty lax with my blog....but not going to use Lizzy as my excuse anymore. Time to update and tell some stories that have been out there for a while......
I will say upfront that Lizzy remains stable. Her weight has not changed in weeks and she is still walking with me every day.

Everything is pretty good!!!!
So I have a lot of good news.....we've had a bunch of adoptions, and one piece of bad news in the last couple of months. I'm only going to update one adoption tonight, so we'll start with bad news first.
A few months ago I talked a bit about Syd. He was found in a parking lot and we needed to get him out of there. One of our fantastic fosters offered to take him and he spent the next few months with her dog. He was in pretty bad shape......very low weight, lethargic.....she took him to the vet, they got some weight on him and he finally seemed pretty happy!!! After a few months his foster mom found him a great forever home in Austin. She came to Houston the first week of august to pick him up....

Everyone seemed so happy. Syd went on his way to his new home...but, sadly it was not to be. A week later our foster got a call from Syd's mom.....he had stopped eating and had lost nine pounds. For him that was of concern since that got him down to 35 pounds, much too low for a dog his size. We waited a couple more days, nothing, so to the vet. They ran a ton of tests , nothing conclusive....still wasn't eating. Before all the labs came back Syd died in his sleep. He had a pretty hard life before foster and adoption, at least he got a few months of pampering.....RIP Syd....we will miss you.....
So a happy story. Joelle and Solomon were two Huskies that loved to play together every day. One day earlier in the year Solomon got a great home!!! Joelle was not her usual happy self after he was gone and we tried some other combinations, but nothing really worked.A few months back we got an application for her....we never had many even though she was such a pretty girl!!! He came out to look at her and fell in love!!! She now get to travel , go boating....all the things she never got to do before!!! She finally found her home, there is someone out there for all of them.....
Have a wonderful life little girl!!!!

So this happened a couple of days ago......

I'm surprised my little car drives so well with that much mileage.....to 100,000 more!!!
Have a great evening , you will be hearing from me a lot more often.....

Lizzy Update....Again....

I keep wanting to post about other dogs......but this is Lizzy's blog and she is number one. She'd been on the enzymes for about a week and a half......and of course I was hoping they would do the trick. The fact is , not much changed. It still looked like she wasn't processing much so we went back to the vet yesterday. Looks like she is processing about 25% of what she takes in. After this amount of time that won't change. I can give her anything to drink or eat.....but 75% will not provide nutrients. The great thing is that she weighed exactly the same as she had two weeks ago....that is a huge plus. She still loves her 2 mile walks each day.....but we don't jog anymore. She still plays with the others.....but not terribly long from now that won't be the case. Just keeping her happy as long as I can......so far no pain pills needed.

These were taken the day before she went to A&M in August. She was not a happy camper....whining the whole time.....we did have everyone in the store come back and see what was happening.....Denise and I assured them there was no nefarious activity!!!!
Please keep my girl in your thoughts.......we have run out of options.....so hope for the best.....

Lizzy.....

It's been a very stressful couple of weeks......hence the non posting. A week and a half ago I noticed that Lizzy looked like she was losing weight, she was eating enough but I changed up her menu a bit to give her some more food. No change so I started following her when she went out to do her business and noticed that starting last week it looked like it wasn't processing at all. I had to go out with the scoop to pick it up immediately because the other dogs thought it was food and it smelled like food. Took her to the vet Monday........turns out she can't process anything because her pancreas is not producing enzymes.....she is in fact starving to death. When I first noticed these problems a few months ago she was 52 lbs. now she is 35 lbs. We put her on enzymes 3 or 4 days ago, but so far no change. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to see how long it takes....I was hoping it would already be working. The next step....well I think you know what that is.....there is none. I'm trying to be very optimistic.....I never cry or get negative in front of her or the other dogs. But things are not happy here..................

The positive is that she's not in any pain and is still playing with everyone and seems happy.............
