Tuesday....

OMG....it's so cold here. All you guys in the north will say I'm a wimp....and you're right!! I live in Houston cause of the warm weather....when it's 38, 30 mile an hour winds and raining I'm pretty unhappy!! Because of the weather I've been pretty busy helping as many dogs as I can. But let's get into some good stuff....
So....our girl Kalyn has a foster. She is the one that is so skinny and turned out to have mange, but she has a foster that will take care of her......
They will hopefully nurse her back to health and we can get her a great forever home!!! I know she had a few people out of state willing to foster but I know our director wanted her to stay close in case there were problems.
We had someone take a pup with parvo.....sometimes a death sentence...they got him a new foster home also....
I wish the best...he's still not out of the woods.....
I have a few things to say since it's the holiday season. Please , while you are spending Thanksgiving with your loved ones , please think about the animals out there that have no one to care for them. Just a day , a few minutes make all the difference. Go to your local shelter or rescue and help. The animals need you!!!
One last thing....I give thanks for Pat and all Husky Haven volunteers, Becky, who not only took me on the greatest vacation but helps with so many rescues, Angelica....I was her petsitter and she and I have helped with so many dogs, who knew......and Greg, my best friend, we worked with dogs at the same kennel for two years and never met.......he has done so much. Remember this is the season for giving.....
Have a wonderful evening......

Some things for a Sunday....

So before I have to start packaging stuff for my EBay sales (a bunch of the money goes to rescue) I thought I'd catch up on a few things!!
First, beautiful boy Elfie went to a foster family!!! He had been adopted at the beginning of the year and was brought back....I guess the guy just traveled too much....and I'll leave it at that. He was not happy about being back at the rescue....but I think he's happy now being with a new family.
I hope he has a great time and who knows!!
Here's a picture I took of Iniki a couple of weeks back....

Our little three legged girl looks so much better than she did back in March.....
Denise and Ron have been taking great care of her!!
This pretty girl was rescued from Animal Control a few days ago....
Beautiful , isn't she!! Well until you see the rest.
Her back haunches have no fur on them , just bone protruding....
She is also still lactating....we can't even have her spay/neutered until she drys up. Tomorrow we'll test for heartworm...with our luck she'll probably be positive!!! And she only weighs about 25 pounds....I can pick her up with one arm. She has a way to go before she will be ready to find a family.
You know we got 9 puppies back at the beginning of May, mom was part Siberian....but puppies look all lab. We've gotten two adopted (that will be one of my next stories) but we are having a hard time getting them adopted. Our director has two at her house, Friday I decided to take some new pictures. I called them to me , told them I was going to take their pictures and they stood and looked right at me.....no Husky I know would do that!!!!

Brady

Killeen
They are both really sweet, house and crate trained.....if you know anyone that loves lab puppies go to our website Husky Haven and take a look.
One last pic for today. Precious Lottie having a nap with her tongue sticking out.....
Have a great Sunday everyone......

Happy Veterans Day.....

I have three stories today.  Number one is my Dad. My Dad went into the navy at 17 during WWII. His parents were dirt poor farmer immigrants in North Dakota. They came from Germany with no education and my Dad wanted more. He enlisted in the Navy during the war and spent his time in the Pacific. I have many stories he has written to me .....but not for today. His one goal was the GI Bill to get him his dream of a pH D.When he came back from the war his parents had moved to Washington, there he met my Mom and fell in love.He got his Bachelors from Washington State and moved to Chicago for his Masters. After that he married my Mom and moved to Southern California to get his pHD at UCLA. I know that if he didn't do all those things ...I might not have been around. I love you......87 years and all!!!
Me and my Dad
So another story....last week we had a great application from a guy that had just come back from Iraq. He had moved back in with his parents....when he was gone he lost his beloved German Shepard. He wanted a dog....maybe to help him through this pain. He had seen some of our Huskies on the website and had decided on a few. When he came over yesterday....the dog he really wanted had bad skin issues, so our director showed him a couple of others. Romo came out and they fell in love......you always know when the dog is right for you!!! He came in a truck with his parents and wanted to ride in the back with Romo, but that's illegal so he dropped off his parents and came back to get HIS DOG...seriously in caps...so excited. I think Romo will have the best home.....his new owner is already scheduling him for classes.

Love you mister!!!
Last is my nephew Everett. He also went in the Navy so he could be in the medical field. He  knew that he wouldn't have the funds to help him through so he enlisted.  I think he and his wife will be in the military till they retire.....at a very young age. I want to say how proud I am of you and your wife....love you both.
So Happy Veterans Day.....remember our troops.....
See you next time..........

Some updates and a foster......

I hope everyone is having a good week.....this morning it was in the forties after being in the high 80's the last few days.....schizophrenic weather indeed!!!  I kind of like it somewhere in the middle, but I digress....
I wanted to show a few pics I have as well as a video........I hope the video works , it's adorable!! Laz was adopted last year, he was a big white Husky.....and I never knew he was so vocal!!! He is obviously having a great time at his new home...really ruling the roost!!! We love you boy!!!
Here is a picture of Miss Sassy cleaning up after herself!!!
I'm a bit late adding this one ,it's from late September...but it's still really cute.
Here is Rudi with his sister Martina. Rudi (the red and white )  was my foster, wow, almost two years ago!!! He was a wonderful boy. He had been hit by a car and left in a school parking lot when we rescued him. It took him a while to get adjusted, but I'd like to think that my dogs and I helped with that process. Martina was also from Husky Haven.

Those two get along so well!!!
Our beautiful Carlene went to a foster home this week. I'm so happy she has a new place to stay!!!

I know she's in her Halloween outfit....but I wasn't there to get a pic the day she was picked up. She is a really great girl and loves her crate!!!
I'll wrap this up....more news soon.
Have a great evening!!!!

Adoptions.....

We had a couple of really great adoptions last Tuesday. I am behind in my adoption coverage....but we'll start with these!!!
You should remember Murray.....he was the boy we picked up in January with the broken shoulder and fractured pelvis. He really healed well and had some interest in him, but we wanted to make sure he healed completely before he was going to be in a home with another dog. Also , we wanted a special home for him!!! We spent a lot of time nursing him back to health, so we wanted someone we knew to take care of him. Our good friend Vanda ( she had adopted Hudson ) had expressed interest in him and we knew this would be the perfect home!!! A few weeks ago Vanda and her boyfriend, Joe, came to introduce the boys. They were running and playing, looked like a good match!! They took Murray home as a foster, just to see how he worked in their place.

Getting in the car, ready for a trip
This last week , they made it official......Murray has a new home!!!! I'm so happy for all of them, it's a great place and fantastic new owners. I know they will be updating me.....can hardly wait to see how things are going. We love you boy....have a wonderful new life!!!!!
Our other adoptee this week has quite a different story. Captain Jack is really a veteran of  Husky Haven. He has been in the program for many years......he's been fostered and brought back, adopted and brought back. Early this year Denise ( she has gotten dogs adopted ) took Jack as a foster. He's gone to shows , but not a ton of interest. Last week he had a good adoption application and the family came out to see him at Denise's with their dog , Glacier. They loved him and Denise and I scheduled Tuesday to go check the home and deliver Jack if everything went well. We took the long ride to Lake Jackson, and I'm telling you that is a long drive and we got lost, but finally made it!!! Jack walked right on in and started having a wonderful time with Glacier. At the end of the day, he also had a great new home. I know Denise and her husband Ron were sad, but it makes space for another foster and to save another life.

I'm super happy that he has a new home, once they are in our program we never give up. Have a great time Jack with your new buddy.
So that was last week....like to have a few more of those.
Love you Jack and Murray.....
Have a wonderful afternoon!!!
Go Texans on prime time tonight.....
