Some Odds and Ends......

I have some pictures that didn't fit a category really so I thought I'd post them together today. I have a bunch of adoption pics , since the start of the year, but these come first......
Last weekend our friend Michelle took Onyx home for the weekend. She was having such a good time with her dog , Jake, that she decided to foster her for the whole week. We had tested Onyx and Jake together and they really liked each other......still do!!!
Hanging out on the balcony!!!

Jake and Onyx posing!!!
One of our other adopters , Vanda, sent me a pic of her two.  As you can see Hudson and Murray really don't get along!!! I think these two are joined at the hip!!

Hudson and Murray.....those crazy boys!!!
This picture of Gunter just made me laugh.....apparently he doesn't like it when Yi leaves for work!!!
Oh Gunter!!!!
I wanted to put in a couple of B-Day pics too!! I went and bought myself some flowers on the 15th.....a bargain. My friend Cyndii made me these beautiful cupcakes....most of them gluten free and ingredients like carrots and pineapple. Lizzy liked them too!!!!

Lizzy and TJ in cupcake form!!!
Almost lost my hand there!!!
Have a wonderful weekend......

Happy Valentine's Day........

Today is Valentine's Day and also my birthday. That's all great , but today is Lizzy's birthday too!!! When I adopted her 7 years ago, I knew she was born in February so it just seemed logical we share the same day. If you told me seven and one half months ago that  she would make it to today......I don't know if I would have believed that. She was so sick. After her surgery more that 6 months ago when they said she wouldn't live for more than 6 months, I started counting everything by the holidays, she feels good on Thanksgiving, going strong Christmas and New Years......she made it to her birthday.......I actually am so happy for everyday with her.....don't know how many those are, but they are all good.

So happy ninth birthday beautiful girl!!! So many people told me dogs sometimes defy the odds with pancreatic cancer.....I know she's terminal, but for now she doesn't......
Happy Valentine's Day.......

Senior Day at Kriser's.....

Last Saturday we had our monthly show at Kriser's, but I wanted to give it a twist by taking some of the senior's that don't have a chance to get out much. We took our two very senior dogs.....Winston who is about 7 and Kaila , she is around 8. Didn't know how they'd react to all the people, Winston was OK, Kaila was a bit timid. Our friend Michelle brought Onyx.....not technically a senior.....but she needs to be with people too!!! All three of them got along great and Onyx really became the official greeter, she was going to get people to talk to us!!! I got some good pics of both Onyx and Winston, but most of the pictures of Kaila were of her butt or her turning her head at the last moment.  Luckily we had our friend , Farid, from Austin, taking pictures of the dogs and he got a few great ones of her.
Onyx having a blast!!!

Our official greeter!!!

Miss Kaila and me ....thanks Farid!!!
All of my dogs, except Faith are seniors and they make great companions. They really just want to be with you.....all the seniors we have are house trained, crate trained and want a wonderful family to live out their days. Older dogs are great........
Thanks Farid and his wife Denise for taking a ton of pics....
Have a wonderful evening!!!!

Spencer......

Sometimes I just have to do an update on a dog from another rescue that I spent a lot of time with and wished I could have taken in. Spencer was one of those dogs. I've written about him before....he was in kennel for at least 2 years.....I'd go see him once or twice a week, and if I hadn't already had three and was fostering would have taken him. He was on a large transport to the northeast that I wrote about last spring, one of about 70-80 dogs going to new homes in Massachusetts , NY and other states that don't have the dog population issues we have in Texas and other southern states. He was taken in by a wonderful family and they have sent updated pics.....so I want to share them with you!!
As you can see he is wrapped up in the right blanket....he knows how to pick a team!!!!

Spence and his Christmas pictures!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

A far cry from Texas....his first real snowstorm!!!!!
I love it when you get updated....and Spence was always one of my favorites. You can see he is finally having a fantastic life!!!! Miss you beautiful boy!!!!
Have a great evening!!!!

2nd Annual Arctic Games

So last Saturday we had our second annual Arctic Games. We decided to have it in the same park as we did our first games......and it was a great success!! It's a joint effort...Husky Haven and TAMR (Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue) to educate dog owners on all the fun sports they can do with their pals. We have urban mushing, weight pull, backpacking and a number of other great activities. We also had silent auctions, the Arctic Marketplace and loads of baked goods for furry friends. The week leading up to the games we had rain, but Saturday was beautiful as you will see in the pics. This is a very picture laden post......so here we go!!!!

I'm back....I think

I haven't been consistently posting for so many reasons.....worried about Lizzy, my house is still a wreck, I'm in pain and my Dad is going over the edge. 2015 turned out to be the worst year ever. I lost my writing voice. But I'm back....many new posts starting tomorrow. Thanks.

Happy New Year!!!!

I know it's the 11th......I'm a little bit late wishing you a happy new year, but there has been much going on. I haven't been ignoring you!! I've spent many a day in a dentist chair already this year.....have some issues that I'm going to have to take care of in the next month or so, and you have no idea how much I hate going to the dentist!!!
Then I had to deal with this.........

Yes.....I had to have foundation work on my house......and part of it was in my bedroom.....see above. I very unpleasant experience. I don't think it would have been too bad if it had just been outside. But inside is terrible. I have another hole in my closet.
This is what it looks like when they are finished.....I'm going to have to learn how to put in tile!!!!!
On a positive note, and there is one, Miss Lizzy is six months from having been diagnosed, they said she wouldn't make it this long. Every day is a bonus....but she seems to be feeling pretty good. She is still her crazy self and that makes me very happy!!!
So happy 2015.......
Have a wonderful day!!
Go Green Bay!!!!

Some more adoptions......

So we had quite a flurry of adoptions the last couple of months.....so I think I will finally get caught up today!! Don't know who to start with....so I guess we'll take Pacer.
Pacer has been with us for a few years.....he was a bit older when we got him......so sweet, but no takers. When we found him on the street we took him to the vet to have him scanned for a microchip, and he actually had one from the San Francisco SPCA. We contacted the owners in Houston, they let him go because they didn't want him anymore (really great people). He finally found a good home.....so glad both he and Blast....a couple of our seniors got adopted this year!!!
Calypso was a lovely boy we got from animal control earlier this year. He was absolutely covered in mange. Luckily we had a kind foster to take him in and nurse him back to health. Once he felt better he started bringing him to shows. Here he is about a month ago.......
He went to his new home outside of Dallas this week......he had a short adjustment period.....but is doing great now with his new buddy!!!
Our little girl, Jordyn also got a home this last week. This picture is of her when she went for a fun foster weekend with Jake.....
I wasn't there for the adoption......but heard they were very excited to have her!!!!
Have fun Jordyn......we will miss you!!!!
Kenzie

Abby
Last but not least for today.....I posted a couple of months ago about some dogs we had in kennel, two little red girls and a woolly. We got the two red girls out of the kennel and we immediately had interest in them. A previous adopter, Merlin's mom and dad, were interested in one of them. They came with Merlin and we let them out one at a time.....they both were great with him. So here was the conversation:
Dad: Which one do you like the best??
Mom: I really like them both.
Dad: But which one do you want to take home??
Mom: Both of them........
And so , Kenzie and Abby found a new home with big brother Merlin. I've talked to them and they adore the girls.....and Merlin keeps them in line!!!!
We are always so happy to get kids in some good homes!!!!
A short Lizzy update.....things seem to be about the same.....we are still walking everyday....she loves her food and treats......so I'm good for now.....she seem to be too!!!
Hoping you are having a great holiday!!!!
See you soon......

Been a while.....

Hope you are having a great holiday season......we are doing pretty well here!!! Lizzy is the same , which is good and everyone else is doing well. I've been busy with the online fundraiser for the rescue.....this was one of my projects!!!!

I baked more that 500 dog biscuits......that was a full day project!!!!
Wanted to talk about a few adoptions.....I'm getting very behind.....so let's catch up.....
A couple of months ago a young man came up to us at a show and was very interested in getting a Husky. We asked if he'd ever had a dog, he hadn't , so we suggested Gunter. Gunter is very laid back and sweet....perfect for the first time owner. He took us up on our suggestion and now Gunter has a wonderful home!!!
Yi and his best buddy, Gunter
Blast had been with us for a few years.....he just never got much interest. He is such a sweet boy too!! A month or so ago we met a couple at the same show we met Yi and they came the next week for our work day......they also had a hidden motive.....they wanted to check out a bunch of dogs and see which one was going to go home with them. They took a few of the dogs for a walk and decided on Blast.....I was so happy!!!
Blast with Christina and Ryan!!!!
His name is Harvey now and they just love him......so glad for him.....there truly is a family out there for all of our dogs!!!
The last one today will be Liesha. Liesha was a girl that came to us covered in mange. We worked with her and finally got her pretty cleared up, we knew that if she could get a home that she would probably clear up completely. We had a great family with their dog Hunter come by and they got along great. They didn't even bother to see any other girls. So finally our girl has her own home. They tell me that the two are inseparable!!
Liesha/Sasha with Hunter and her new Mom and Dad!!!
We've had plenty more adoptions....but I'll save those for later. I opted not to put up my tree this year....didn't want to disturb Miss Lizzy....she has a huge crate in the living room that takes up a lot of space and I don't want to move her.....she sleeps there all the time.....not quite as bright as it usually is.....but I'm just glad she is still around!!!!
Have a wonderful evening.......
