Miss Tamara
Tamara had been adopted a few years ago and came back to Husky Haven a couple of weeks ago. I'm not going into any specifics about her time away.....it's irrelevant for this. When she came back she weighed 66 pounds....for her size that would be considered obese....she is small and should weight about 40 pounds. Her toenails were also about 2 inches long. Both of these things were fixable. More troubling was the fact she had to squat and try and pee every five minutes. We saw blood in her pee and started antibiotics. The blood went away but her squatting didn't. We took her to the vet a week and a half ago....ran many tests and x-rays showed more than 30 bladder stones....some the size of a ping pong ball. The ones you see in my hand are the smallest ones. Can you imagine how much pain she was in and so long. She had surgery on Wednesday and right now is doing poorly. We are very worried about her...she won't eat and barely moves....probably another trip to the vet tomorrow. We are asking for your help.....so far the bills are about $1500.00....but will probably be more. If you can donate we would really be grateful. If you need to send a check please PM me, Beth Poole, and I will send info. If you can go to www.huskyhaven.org and donate to our Paypal that would be appreciated. She needs good thoughts and I will update her progress. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks, Beth

Tamara stroked out yesterday before we could get to the vet. She was a great girl and her previous foster mom is so upset.....when we got her back she was obese.....yesterday I knew she wouldn't make it as she was shaking and freaking out. She died for no other reason than neglect. In our contract we ask adopters to bring the dogs back if you can not deal. We will always help......how could it get to this????
There is so much sorrow and rage boiling inside of me. I keep making myself remember how she was when I saw her on Friday evening. I walked into the living room and she was on a blanket. I spoke softly to her "Hey pretty girl!" She laid on her side and lifted her front leg so I had access to her chest. Her tail was thumping the whole time. Weakly, but it was audible. I offered her some of my dogs' homemade food and she wasn't interested. I put a tiny, tiny bit on her tongue and it got her attention. She ate 3 or 4 tablespoons but, it just took too much energy for something she wasn't really all that concerned about. I think she ate, just to make me and Pat happy.
ReplyDeleteEven after all she'd been through, she really only wanted to please. Such is the way of the dog. Proof they are much more thoughtful, much kinder and wiser souls than are we.
Wherever she is, I hope this girl is getting plenty of belly rubs, and tasty treats that don't add to her waistline. I hope she is told every day that she is beautiful and she is loved because, she certainly was both. I just wish we'd been able to get her back sooner and reassure her before she'd been so betrayed.
I find a small bit of comfort that she had the three of us at the end to take care of her and love on her. I wish also she had come back sooner because I don't think it had to end this way...........

One little correction Beth. She was with the Vet when she died. They immediately gave her a shot and CPR but could not revive her. I had taken her there in the morning right after you left so they could observe her and do some more tests. --Pat
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat....I'm sure I was freaking out the other day and didn't hear what you had to say.......
