Six Years Ago Today............

I knocked on a door that would profoundly change my life.
Let me backtrack a bit...I never was a dog person...always had cats. My son got a Husky and I was happy about that...but for so many reasons it didn't work out. Because of that I wanted to use my time for rescue dogs. I figured there had to be a husky rescue in Houston and I found Husky Haven. At the first of the year in 2008 I contacted them and found out they had a work day on the 8th of January. So I knocked on that door....and when I opened it an 80 pound Husky bounded out. I know I stood there for about  2 minutes....should I go back to my car and get away or should I suck it up and walk in....of course I walked in and the dog was picked up by the girls a minute later. I have learned so much , and found my best friends through Husky Haven. I never knew rescue could also rescue me........

    Yes, knocking on that door sure does change your life! You meet the most caring, generous, hardworking, dedicated people. You learn more about dogs than you ever dreamed possible. You get skills you never knew you had. You get to meet so many amazing dogs. You learn how rescue works from beginning to end....and still learning! Thanks Pat for making it all possible! Beth, I'm so glad you walked through that door!

    Oh, and I got Hailey and Dos who I love more than I ever knew possible. They make me laugh everyday.

    This is a part of your story I didn't know, Beth! You and Pat have done some amazing work with dogs and the dedication of you both is beyond admirable. Like Pat, I'm glad you didn't bolt, because you have become someone important in my life!

    Although there are headaches sometimes in rescue... the rewards far out weigh them. I am glad you decided to volunteer with Husky Haven... I did too!

    I went to Husky Haven looking for camaraderie and to help dogs, and I met you! What a lot I have learned from you and Pat and what miracle healing there can be in a rescue effort.

    So glad you wrote this.

    That's really awesome. Congratulations on your sixth year.

    I have always wanted to volunteer. I plan to do so once I get my life stable... Hopefully it'll be soon enough.
