I have three stories today. Number one is my Dad. My Dad went into the navy at 17 during WWII. His parents were dirt poor farmer immigrants in North Dakota. They came from Germany with no education and my Dad wanted more. He enlisted in the Navy during the war and spent his time in the Pacific. I have many stories he has written to me .....but not for today. His one goal was the GI Bill to get him his dream of a pH D.When he came back from the war his parents had moved to Washington, there he met my Mom and fell in love.He got his Bachelors from Washington State and moved to Chicago for his Masters. After that he married my Mom and moved to Southern California to get his pHD at UCLA. I know that if he didn't do all those things ...I might not have been around. I love you......87 years and all!!!

Me and my Dad

So another story....last week we had a great application from a guy that had just come back from Iraq. He had moved back in with his parents....when he was gone he lost his beloved German Shepard. He wanted a dog....maybe to help him through this pain. He had seen some of our Huskies on the website and had decided on a few. When he came over yesterday....the dog he really wanted had bad skin issues, so our director showed him a couple of others. Romo came out and they fell in love......you always know when the dog is right for you!!! He came in a truck with his parents and wanted to ride in the back with Romo, but that's illegal so he dropped off his parents and came back to get HIS DOG...seriously in caps...so excited. I think Romo will have the best home.....his new owner is already scheduling him for classes.
Love you mister!!!
Last is my nephew Everett. He also went in the Navy so he could be in the medical field. He knew that he wouldn't have the funds to help him through so he enlisted. I think he and his wife will be in the military till they retire.....at a very young age. I want to say how proud I am of you and your wife....love you both.
So Happy Veterans Day.....remember our troops.....
See you next time..........
Thanks for sharing those beautiful stories. I wish we could start a program for returning vets to get more involved with Husky Haven dogs. There has been a lot of unspoken trauma and there are a lot of men and women that are dealing with the after effects. Working with animals is very healing and, I think we could find some terrific homes for a lot of our furbabies!

I wish we could too this guy had a lot of issues but I know that Romo will help him.....
DeleteMy stepfather was in the Navy in WW 11 as well He married my Mom when I was 12. He survived Pearl Harbor--He was not on the ship that day. His ship went down and he lost all of his friends. I have a picture of him and about 30 seman all that were gone on that day but him. He also survived two or his ships that were sunk in the Mediterranean. Just lucky I gues. He never talked much about anything that happeden to him from that time. I only knew because of the certificates, medals etc. He was a great guy and died at age 85!!
ReplyDeleteI know...it's funny my dad has always given me letters with what happened to him...never talked about it....I'm very sorry for your loss...I'm sure he was a great guy!!!!!
DeleteThat is great news about Romo. We salute all the veterans past and present as our world is a free and safe place because of them. Yesterday was our Poppy Day and Sunday was our Remembrance Day.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
