I promised more adoptions and here is another one from the same weekend. A year and a half ago we had two little red and white girls come in. One was Amber, she came with her three puppies that died of distemper, we almost lost her too. The other was Topaz. They didn't come in at exactly the same time but we figured they must be related they looked so much alike. Both girls got adopted out, I didn't know who Topaz was adopted by, but Amber was adopted by a good friend to the rescue, Donna. A year passed and I knew Amber was happy......got to see her and pet sit her during the Holidays. Really never did hear about Topaz until about 6 weeks ago. I don't know the whole story, but she ended up in animal control and we were contacted. Our director made the decision to bring her back with us. I know there was a lot more to it. But here she was again....looking for a new home.
So cute....you've got to love that face!!!!
So I told Donna that Amber's almost twin was available and maybe she should take a look at her!!! So Donna brought Amber out to meet Topaz and they all came home together!!! Topaz is the very gregarious girl, Amber is a little more reserved, but they seem to be working out well.
Here are the two of them, Amber on the left and Topaz on the right. There is another dog, Rudi, but he is fifteen and wants nothing to do with these girls. I imagine he was sleeping comfortably in the bedroom when this was taken!! I'm so happy to see these girls together and I hope they have a long and fun life......thanks Donna!!!
More catch up tomorrow!!!
Have a great evening.........

Wow......
I didn't realize that it's been two weeks since I last posted!!! It's been crazy busy for those two weeks, I've been working about 18 hours a day. When I first started my pet sitting business, it was slow going.....not so anymore!! I've barely had time for sleep, let alone my blog and , sadly, my dogs. But today I am back to relative calm, only a couple of jobs and both within walking distance, my favorites!!
We had quite a few adoptions that I would like to catch up on. So let's go!!! A week and a half ago we had a pretty special adoption. Let me tell you the story. Last November we got a note from a family we had adopted a dog to. Unfortunately , Sasha , had lost her battle with aspergillosis. I looked this up and found it is a common mold. Generally it doesn't do anything, but in a dog with a compromised immune system...the results can and in her case, were fatal. Dogs that we take in from animal control already have a disadvantage...we don't know how long they have been living on the streets, what they've been eating, or what diseases they have acquired. Sasha's eyes were attacked and were surgically removed, she was on every anti-fungal to control the growth. She adjusted to the loss of sight , but over time the fungus couldn't be controlled and and with it growing on her spine and brain, and her being in such pain, they and their vet decided to make that hard decision to put her to sleep.
Here is sweet Sasha, I feel for them and it must have been really hard to have to go through that with her. At least she is at the Rainbow Bridge, no longer in pain.
They had decided to come to Houston in June , when their three girls were out of school. The family also decided to take two dogs this time!! We temperament tested a few dogs and the two that stood out were Lucy Lou and Lanny. They played and played together....no problems with these two. The next weekend the family drove in from San Antonio to pick up their new kids!!! I know they will never forget Sasha, but they have given a wonderful home to two deserving dogs!!
Thanks so much for helping these sweet dogs!!!
More adoptions on the way......
Have a wonderful evening!!!!

Adoptions....
I have been very far behind...now to do a little catching up!! I have three adoptions to write about from last month, two from Husky Haven and one from another Husky rescue in the Dallas area.
Our sweet girl , Skye, or Skylar as she is known now was officially adopted last month. She had been with her Dad, James, for a while , and he had every intention of adopting her.
Now she can hang out everyday in her personal garden, munching down on her vegetables. We love you lovely girl and know you will have the greatest life with your Dad.
Colin, our woolly boy also got adopted last month. He was so cute and I'm so happy he has a new forever home.....
Great job Krista on getting another one of our kids adopted!!!!
Finally there is Angel. I did a house check last month for Texas Husky Rescue in the Dallas area. We do a lot of work with them and they take a lot of Huskies from the Houston area. The house check was for Gary and his boy Zane. They had lost their other Husky, Luke, and Zane needed a playmate. I tried to convince to get one of our Houston dogs, but he had already contacted the Dallas rescue and a week after the home check he and Zane traveled north and brought home Angel. I haven't had a chance to meet her yet, but hopefully soon. Looks to me like the two of them really get along.
I'm always happy to see a dog get a new , wonderful home.......even if she didn't come from Husky Haven!!!
That's all for now....
Some more adoptions and some new dogs coming up soon!!!
Have a great evening!!!

Happy Birthday....
So before we get back to the fun, and sometimes not so fun, my dogs and rescue dog stories, I have one thing I've got to say. Happy Birthday to my Momma....she would have been 85 years old today. We lost her seven years ago....one of the worst days of my life. My Mom had many demons...and they finally got to her, but everyone loved her despite this. I'm sorry I didn't start working in rescue until after she was gone, she would have loved all my stories and enjoyed seeing the dogs. She was a cat person and so was I growing up...I never realized we were rescuing, all our cats were from bad situations, or just saving them from some idiot in front of a grocery store. I miss her everyday, I know that I got my love of animals from her.
Mom I love you and think of you everyday. Happy Birthday........
