Lizzy Update....Again....

I keep wanting to post about other dogs......but this is Lizzy's blog and she is number one. She'd been on the enzymes for about a week and a half......and of course I was hoping they would do the trick. The fact is , not much changed. It still looked like she wasn't processing much so we went back to the vet yesterday. Looks like she is processing about 25% of what she takes in. After this amount of time that won't change. I can give her anything to drink or eat.....but 75% will not provide nutrients. The great thing is that she weighed exactly the same as she had two weeks ago....that is a huge plus. She still loves her 2 mile walks each day.....but we don't jog anymore. She still plays with the others.....but not terribly long from now that won't be the case. Just keeping her happy as long as I can......so far no pain pills needed.

These were taken the day before she went to A&M in August. She was not a happy camper....whining the whole time.....we did have everyone in the store come back and see what was happening.....Denise and I assured them there was no nefarious activity!!!!
Please keep my girl in your thoughts.......we have run out of options.....so hope for the best.....

Lizzy.....

It's been a very stressful couple of weeks......hence the non posting. A week and a half ago I noticed that Lizzy looked like she was losing weight, she was eating enough but I changed up her menu a bit to give her some more food. No change so I started following her when she went out to do her business and noticed that starting last week it looked like it wasn't processing at all. I had to go out with the scoop to pick it up immediately because the other dogs thought it was food and it smelled like food. Took her to the vet Monday........turns out she can't process anything because her pancreas is not producing enzymes.....she is in fact starving to death. When I first noticed these problems a few months ago she was 52 lbs. now she is 35 lbs. We put her on enzymes 3 or 4 days ago, but so far no change. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to see how long it takes....I was hoping it would already be working. The next step....well I think you know what that is.....there is none. I'm trying to be very optimistic.....I never cry or get negative in front of her or the other dogs. But things are not happy here..................

The positive is that she's not in any pain and is still playing with everyone and seems happy.............

Another Lizzy Update........

I'm finally going to be posting my blog again. I've made a decision about Lizzy that is right for both of us and I need to move on.

So happy to be home......sunning herself!!!

She was glad to get out of the hospital!!!!

Her crazy flotation device!!!

I've never seen a cone like this......

So relaxed........
Lizzy had her surgery and they removed a four inch tumor.......the cancer cells in other parts of her body are the problem. When I left A&M a week ago the doc told me she had 3 to 6 months to live and that I should put her on chemo. I truthfully didn't understand that, if she's terminal then why chemo. I had an appointment last week with my doc and she had an oncologist come in to look over the file and give me some advice. I had pretty much decided that chemo was a no go, but wanted to hear what they had to say. The oncologist told me Lizzy wasn't a great fit for chemo , almost every problem she's had in the last few years has had to do with her gut, she said it would probably make her sicker and I would end her life sooner.......while making her miserable. My doc just wants to monitor her every month to see how it goes. Right now Lizzy is back to being Lizzy, she's fooling around with the other dogs and being her old self. I believe I made the right decision. Have any of you been here.......curious as to what you did in a case like this.........
